Grant Overview

Nurturing Student Well-being through School Gardens

Common Barriers to Eligibility
Eligibility for this funding can be obstructed by a variety of factors. Schools with limited or no existing student wellness programs may find it difficult to establish the necessary framework to support the integration of gardening into their wellness strategies. Furthermore, schools lacking community partnerships or resources to implement effective health initiatives may be ineligible, as they cannot demonstrate a commitment to student well-being.

Compliance Traps and Audit Risks
In implementing funded school garden initiatives aimed at promoting student well-being, institutions need to rigorously adhere to compliance standards, particularly regarding health education and safety protocols. Schools must ensure that they are providing appropriate nutritional information and mental health initiatives alongside garden activities. Failing to adhere to these guidelines risks audits and could result in funding withdrawal.

What Will NOT Be Funded
Grants will not cover expenditures unrelated to gardening, such as sports facilities or unrelated student programs, nor will funds be allocated for direct service delivery such as counseling sessions or nutrition programs not directly associated with the gardening initiative. For example, funds cannot be used to subsidize costs for food deliveries or purchased meal plans without a corresponding garden-related component.

Disqualification Scenarios
Schools that fail to provide adequate planning or a defined approach towards the integration of gardening in wellness initiatives risk disqualification. Failing to demonstrate a structured methodology for evaluating the impact of the gardening programs on student health may result in automatic rejection, as funding bodies require clear expectations to be met.
